Elaine Sisler

Elaine Sisler is an experienced dancer, classroom teacher, arts educator and advocate. Her dedication and commitment to arts education and integration is evidenced by a variety of programs she has developed, coordinated and implemented in Massachusetts, Connecticut, Maryland and New York.
She is
the recipient of the 2006 Massachusetts Alliance for Arts Education’s “Outstanding Arts Educator in Dance” award and the “Goldin Foundation or Excellence in Education” award. Elaine believes that students can learn what they need to know through music, movement, dance, drama and good literature. These are the tools she uses to design programs that help children and adults develop creative thinking, problem solving skills and aesthetic awareness. Her professional development workshops focus on creative process and state learning standards as outlined in the Curriculum Frameworks.
Elaine is a designated “Creative Teaching Partner” for the Massachusetts Cultural Council’s Creative Schools grant program. She is also an adjunct professor at Endicott College in the Creative Arts and Learning graduate program and teaches creative dance at the Luther Conant School in Acton, MA & Studio Ballet of Hudson, MA. Elaine is a performing member of “Skyloom” Sacred Dance Group and “Encore Dance Ensemble”. She also serves on the national Board of Directors of the Sacred Dance Guild.

PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT
Dancing Through the Frameworks
This professional development workshop for elementary teachers focuses on the dance standards of the Massachusetts Arts Curriculum Framework. Participants engage in interactive music, movement, and dance activities to develop effective strategies for the implementation of creative movement and dance into academic and arts curricula. Ten dance standards are explored, defined, and demonstrated through active participation in previously designed and successfully implemented lessons and activities. Handouts include sample lesson plan outlines and resource materials for effective follow-up.
Workshop Program Logistics
